ACCNJ Educational Series
Listening Workshop
On August 7, 2025, the Associated Construction Contractors of New Jersey (ACCNJ) proudly hosted a successful Listening Skills Workshop as part of our Educational Series at the ACCNJ offices in Edison. The session brought together industry professionals and interns alike to focus on one of the most underappreciated yet vital components of effective communication: listening.
In a world where speaking is often emphasized, this workshop offered attendees the tools and techniques needed to become more intentional and impactful listeners. Participants explored the costs of poor listening, common barriers, communication style differences, and how to use The Listening Protocol to build better connections in the workplace and beyond. Interactive role-play exercises gave everyone a chance to apply what they learned in real time.
“Good listening is the foundation of strong leadership,” said Shamara Gatling-Davila, Education Manager. “It not only helps avoid misunderstandings but also builds trust and drives better outcomes across teams. We’re proud to offer this kind of training to professionals at every stage of their careers.”
ACCNJ remains dedicated to providing high-impact educational opportunities that empower our members, support emerging talent, and strengthen communication across the construction industry.
We thank everyone who attended and contributed to making this workshop a success — and we look forward to continuing these important conversations in future sessions.
